Liturgical Elements

Call to Worship
God seeks you and wishes to know you.
We are here because we profess that we are seekers who wish to follow the teachings of Jesus.
God has indeed fearfully and wonderfully made each of us.
God is everywhere we go, even when we
forget that. God knows us and loves us.
This God is the God we worship, setting aside all other gods that may vie for our devotion.
Let us together in community
embrace the stories of each other
and seek the will of the One of Creation.

Prayer of Approach

Lover of Justice, we take too few precious moments from the busy-ness of our lives to search for your presence. In our worship time together, we seek to know you better, as it is in the company and spirits of others that we find you. Embolden us to truly be your people; guide us as we endeavor to tread the path that was trod by Jesus the Christ. Help us to truly walk in humility as we hope to do whatever is necessary to creep ever closer to your Realm in our midst. We pray with joy and gratitude. Amen.

for Sunday, 22 February 2009, post # 1a

For the scripture readings, the liturgist, Allen Foster, will read the Isaiah text. I'll lead the Psalm and either Joe or I shall read the Micah passage.

Final Sunday after Epiphany

This is our second interview Sunday and Rev. Dr. Joe Driskill, from PSR & DSF, will be with us to share his faith journey and thoughts about spirituality with us. I offered Joe the opportunity to choose hymns and scripture and he took me up on that. So we are going off the lectionary this week.

Worship Leaders
  • Music Leader: Lisa Haley
  • Accompanist: Ann Willard
  • Liturgist: Allen Foster
  • Elder: John Swan
  • Interviewee: Joe Driskill
  • Interviewer & Man About Town: Gerry Brague

Scriptures
  • Isaiah 40:26-31
  • Psalm 139:1-18 (Ann, note that this Psalm is in the back of the Chalice Hymnal but only verses 1-12. So I'll print out the whole Psalm on an insert but we'll use the sung response on p. 765.)
  • Micah 6:6-8
Hymns
  • Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah, Chalice Hymnal # 622
  • O God, Our Help in Ages Past, Chalice Hymnal # 67
  • For All the Saints, Chalice Hymnal # 637

Check back here for the liturgical elements. And, as always, contact me with any questions.
